Smokey Grove is a Smoked Sour Wheat from the collaboration between Go Brewing and Industry Ales. A light beer with a lingering Pale or Pilsner finish that is refreshing and gives the beer body. It has a very slight initial sour note that gives it a little bite but certainly isn’t a main flavor. All of this takes back seat to the smoke that I can only describe as a finished cigar or wet coal pit, but in a good way if that makes any sense. It hits you up front in a pleasing way, but by the end of a slowly enjoyed glass it fades to allow the sour note to take center stage.
Overall, a seemingly odd but simple beer that unfolds into more complexity than initially thought. Not an everyday beer, but definitely a good one to pull out when you want something different.
